Work on Writing is when we get to build our writing stamina, practise our writing goals and write freely. It looks a little like this:
We are very excited about the third part of the Daily 5 - reading: Listen to Reading! It's another way for us to learn new words and improve our reading fluency and independence. Check out how we can be adaptable and accepting and work on different things side by side!
It's week 3 and we are learning about Read to Someone. There are lots of fun and interesting ways we can read to a buddy!
Today we learnt how to choose a 'good fit' shoe, I mean book. Whaea Alice brought along some shoes to show sometimes even if we like that pair of high heels they just don't fit us...yet! It's the same for reading books, we need to make sure the book fits our purpose, our interest and we can read most of the words.
This week we have been learning about the first part of the day 5: Read to Self. This means we are building our reading stamina by reading to ourselves. We have been working on finding a good spot to sit in and enjoy our 'good fit' books.
I love reading especially when I'm reading Geronimo Stilton. Good job Alice you are helping me read. I have read 78 pages in my book this week! - Phoebe
ReplyDeletePhoebe I think it's you and your great reading stamina that's helping you read! Congratulations on finishing your book today!! Keep it up - Whaea Alice
ReplyDeleteHi there, we are on the student blogging challenge too! I saw your blog name on the list and decided I wanted to know more about you all! I was really excited to see you are Daily 5'ers too! We have started it this year and at the moment we need to make sure we have enough different options for listen to reading. Could you share some of your ideas with us? We are a year 4 class in the North Waikato called the Terrific Tuis, you can see what we are up to at terrifictuis2013.edublogs.org

Hi Terrific Tuis Alex is right. We use a whole lot of online links to audio stories. Some of which Whaea Alice found from this great class blog called http://openthedoortob4.blogspot.co.nz/. They are a clever bunch of kids from Reefton, so maybe check out their 'listen to reading' page too.
ReplyDeleteAlso we like some of the downloadable ebook apps on our ipads to listen too. I hope that's helpful - do you have iPads or laptops in your class?
